DAY 17 - Dogubayazit (Doggy Biscuit, or...Dodgy Biscuit?)

Another day on the road with playing football at service stations, getting some of the locals involved. The landscape got more and more rugged, every now and then we passed some sheepherds and small settlements. Very poor. People looked at us as if we were from a different planet. There was a river next to the road and lots of landslides, at some point the road had almost completely collapsed into the river. We found out later that there had been days of rain just before.

The town of Dogubayazit really looked like the last town in Turkey. The main street was ok but up to then it was just dirtroads. Military was everywhere, just off the main street we walked past military camps with gunned men behind the fences and tanks all over the place!
Most unfortunately for the boys photos were not permitted - what a pity. Also because Mt. Ararat was right behind the fence, and we were not able to take a photo of that either.

On our way back to the hotel we made the unforgettable experience of visiting a barber. The fun ended with the guy starting to wax Tonys face - and nostrils. Us girls should not have laughed so loudly, because just after they were finished we were invited to sit down. Pressure was on and no way around it. I can only say my cheeks are still hurting. Again, photos will follow. Check it again, it will be worth it! But definately not worth trying it again!

We all spent the evening together to celebrate Ginnys birthday in a restaurant where they had even arranged some beers for us (its a real rarity here!) and moved on to the hotel bar afterwards to stay up until the last drop was emptied.....Goodbye Turkey, lets move to IRAN!
